Sounds like you need to start again in a clean folder, and set up a Python 2.7 environment before running the bootstrap script (and again every time you want to source rivetenv.sh). Or I think just avoiding the ATLAS setup scripts and running with the vanilla lxplus6 compiler and Python should also work (it did for me).
