Would including final state leptons and neutrinos from hadron decays in the
MET definition do what you want here? That should take any unstable hadron
four-momenta into account correctly without double counting. It's perfectly
possible to implement currently as well---perhaps it should even be in the
default MET definition?

Or maybe I misunderstood your point. Sorry if so!
