To not continue this too much longer, one last point:

Freezing the API is of absolutely no use to me, if the behaviour of 
already published analyses changes from release to release. With newly 
introduced ones, do whatever you like, but leave the old ones alone and 
provide _copies_ of them if you want them to do things differently.
